The Southwest has some wonderful climbing areas and many couples now opt to begin their marriage "on the rocks". Most popular areas have established {albeit sometimes primitive} campgrounds and a variety of routes to choose from so even less experienced wedding guests can enjoy an exciting and adventurous day. Alternate options include holding the ceremony at a beautiful spot nearby and then having a climbing reception afterward.

Some destinations that comfortably accommodate larger parties include:
Queen Creek Canyon & Oak Flat Campground ~ Superior
Watson Lake ~ Prescott         Jacks Canyon ~ Winslow
Joshua Tree National Park ~ California
For single day events and smaller groups, the Praying Hands, Pinnacle Peak and The Monk on Camelback are classic Phoenix area climbing routes.

During cooler months, both Phoenix as well as Joshua Tree boast stellar climbing weather. The best times of year for visiting Watson Lake and Jack's Canyon are spring through autumn, but winter climbing is not unheard of. If planning a summer visit, please be advised that temperatures can reach 100 degrees or more so even short routes can be exceptionally challenging in the extreme heat and climbing is not advised.

Rock climbing adventures require specialized equipment {rope, webbing, harnesses, gear } and some preparation & planning but no permits or reservations are necessary for any of the areas listed above. Some destinations may have a camping or use fee. Suggested party size is 6-15 people and previous climbing experience is strongly suggested for couples and guests.
