Below are the vows traditionally spoken at wedding ceremonies.   There are many contemporary versions as well.  Often, couples prefer to write their own vows because the promises they are making are personal and specific.

Although the wedding itself is frequently a compromise between the couple's preferences, the family's wishes, the friends' advice and practical concerns, we are fervent in counseling the couple:
"The vows belong to You ".

We urge you to choose your own words to express the promise that is in your heart and will be made to the one you love.   Your vows do not have to match.  They can be short, long, funny, sentimental, reverent, unconventional.

As for the ring vows;  You are giving a token of the promise you just made, sealing a covenant.  Do and say what makes the most sense to you and has the most meaning for you.

~ Betrothal / Vows of Intent ~

___(G)___  will you take  ___(B)___  to be your wedded wife?
"I will"
Will you promise to love, honor, cherish, and protect her,
forsaking all others and holding only unto her (forevermore)?
"I will"
___(B)___  will you take  ___(G)___  to be your wedded husband?
"I will"
Will you promise to love, honor, cherish, and protect him,
forsaking all others and holding only unto him (forevermore)?
"I will"

~ Main Vows ~

I, __________, take you, __________ to be my wife/husband.
To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, in joy and in sorrow...
until death do us part.
for as long as we both shall live.
and I promise my love to you forevermore.

~ Ring Vows ~

With this ring, I thee wed.
Let it ever be a symbol of our love.
With this ring I thee wed.  With my body, I thee honor.  And with all my worldly goods I thee endow.
This ring I give thee as a token of my constant faith and abiding love.
